I was inspired by Mo Willems’ characters as I decorated my K/1 classroom door and linked it to our Social Studies curriculum. This year, we will be focusing on community helpers.
With the help of some friends and colleagues, I brainstormed many ideas. First, I created the Gerald and Piggie sketches (simply by looking at a photo) and decided to add in a speech bubble. Then, I thought it would be fun to add pigeons dressed in various jobs of community helpers, such as a firefighter, musician, artist, chef, pilot, etc. Every reader of Mo Willems knows to keep an eye out for the pigeon throughout each text. Download to find photos of the final door and the process, as well as templates for the pigeons. Enjoy!
