To Kill a Mockingbird is loosely based on the Scottsboro Trial in which 9 black men were accused of assaulting 2 white women.
Through this set of activities, the students are charged with creating a trial for this case. The jury is instructed to remember the time frame and the prosecution and defense are given time to investigate the case and generate questions. Then the trial is put together and carried out and the jury considers the plea. One piece of evidence (a letter) is included at the end of the file.
Two example trials from the creator's own classrooms are provided to give students and teachers a guide for how to conduct the trial.
