This 8-page resource includes guidelines for conducting a mock murder trial for Mrs. Wright, a character in Susan Glaspell's one-act play Trifles. There are two reproducibles for students, including a planning sheet for students' assigned roles and a rough script and outline for the trial itself. There is also a master sheet on which the teacher can keep track of students' roles in the trial, as well as useful background information on the distinctions between 1st, 2nd and 3rd degree murder. Students use the text to provide "evidence" in court. This usually takes 2 days of planning in-class and 1 day to conduct the trial. It is an excellent way to get students involved in digging through the text, and it can be good preparation for a writing assignment on the play.
