Fairy Tales on Trial is a unique and fun lesson meant to go at the end of a unit on the legal system. It judges a students' ability to understand criminal and civil law, as well as the process of the court system. This is a five stage group assignment, in which students are asked to read and analyze a collection of Grimm's Fairy Tales and perform mock trials based on their work. This assignment can serve as a final project for the unit or as an assessment on the legal system. This lesson includes a lesson plan, a small collection of public domain fairy tales, a group worksheet, a student check sheet for how to develop their mock trial, and an alternative assignment to use if you are sort on time or for a lower level class. The students will have lots of fun working with this assignment and it is a great way to apply knowledge of the law and courts. Perfect for a Civics or Law and Justice class!
