Product Description
This resource is a Project Based Learning Project Assignment with an accompanying Essay Prompt. This assignment should be assigned following the completion of Harper Lee's To Kill A Mockingbird, and a firm understanding of the Mockingbird symbol. The Mockingbird Appreciation Project allows students the opportunity to "climb into someone's skin and walk around in it" while celebrating the individual's contributions to society. The project challenges students to identify society's "professional mockingbirds," extend an act of kindness, and tell a fictional story that highlights the hardships facing their chosen societal mockingbirds.

The resource is ready to print and hand out to students. The assignment features a technology aspect, but can be modified to fit a non-tech classroom setting.

Duration: Students took about 1 week to write the essay and 1 week to complete the project.

To teach students how to write the narrative essay, I presented the "How to Write Awesome Stories" powerpoint.
