PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

In order for students to understand how much danger Tom Robinson faces in Chapter 15, I have students analyze the poem "Strange Fruit." A brief history of the poem and its use as protest poetry is included on the handout. Students are asked to annotate the poem and write a paragraph about the impact of the devices used.

I also show Billie Holiday singing "Strange Fruit" on YouTube at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h4ZyuULy9zs. It is a rare clip of her singing to a live audience.
