This is the handout I provide to students that explains the scope of work to conduct an in-class Model United Nations conference. I like to use the MUN simulation as a culminating project because it involves research, expository writing, public speaking, and an authentic use of academic language. The project description can be adapted to fit your classroom. Together with the country profile, position paper outline, and parliamentary procedure description it creates all you will need to launch a MUN simulation in your class.
I allow 2-3 weeks for the preparation and an extended period of 2-3 hours for the conference. If students enjoy the process you can create a school wide conference or participate a cross-school conference hosted by an outside organization. It all begins with an in-class simulation.
