Tired of reading boring student narratives where each sentence starts in the same way? And, then, I? Invite your students to develop creative and diverse sentences while reinforcing their knowledge of correct punctuation. This hands-on lesson can be combined with my recording sheet posted as "Model, Unscramble, Create - recording sheet".
Students will read model sentences, unscramble sentences parts to recreate established sentences, and will create their own sentences based on the demonstrated pattern. this is variation on the bet practices, "I do, we do, you do" format.
I combine this activity with movement by attaching the model sentences to the board and inviting students to come and select a model to work with. Students love getting out of their chairs and having control over their own learning.
