A simple model to help first graders understand the orbits of the sun, Earth, and moon, which is part of the Next Generation Science Standards (1-ESS1-1).
I recommend copying the pages on construction paper or card stock: Yellow for the sun page, blue or green for the Earth page, and white or gray for the moon page.
Students will need 1 sun page, 1/6 of the Earth page, 1/2 of the moon page, and three brads. Students will cut out the Earth and moon page pieces and assemble the model with brads as described on the pages.
