This is a research project for students. The will explore and research a modern animal and then trace back its ancestors through time. They will use fossils, and the geological time column to explain when the animal they choose had to adapt to a new environment. This project allows them to discover evolution, in a way that makes sense to them. After research is done, they will all present in order to show how all animals have adapted over time.
This includes, a small power-point, a rubric and a student sheet to hand out.
• MS-LS4-2 Apply scientific ideas to construct an explanation for the anatomical similarities and differences among modern organisms and between modern and fossil organisms to infer evolutionary relationships.
• MS-LS4-1 Analyze and interpret data for patterns in the fossil record that document the existence, diversity, extinction, and change of life forms throughout the history of life on Earth under the assumption that natural laws operate today as in the past
