Very engaging activity!
The original Woodstock was held in August of 1969. It was coined: “An Aquarian Exposition” in reference to the height of the Hippie Movement in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Despite being scheduled to last from Friday to Monday, the festival went into Monday morning. During the 3 days of ‘Peace and Music’, artist frequently sang/spoke about environmental issues (Joni Mitchell - Big Yellow Taxi) to the war in Vietnam (Country Joe - Feel Like I Am Fixin’ to Die Rag).
Task: Although some of the issues today are different than the issues of 1969, students are tasked with creating a Woodstock revival (Summer of 2018) to raise awareness about a social, environmental, or political issue of importance to them.
Students will have to create a band line-up and describe how they have a history of supporting the issue important to the student, students will create a poster promoting the concert, and for additional points, students will create a Spotify 'hype' playlist of songs that mention the social topic.
