“Modern Marvels” is a video series that focuses on the effect and use of technology in various aspects of modern society. It aired on the History Channel. Each video is approximately 45-50 minutes in length and would be a great addition to any CTE or STEM class.
The “Dirt” episode discusses various ways dirt, or soil, is used in a productive manner and the science and technology that is needed to accomplish those tasks. The episode features dirt tracks for racing sports, various methods of constructing buildings made of soil, soil as a nutrient source for plants, recreational uses, and the manufacture of laundry detergent to remove dirt from clothing. There is a short clip on the selection of soil used in female bikini mud wrestling, which some may not think is appropriate for all ages.
