Great 2-day activity for your substitute teacher!!!!
In this episode, Henri Matisse's life and art is featured, leading up to the climate close of Matisse’s life and work: Chapel of the Rosary. This guide comes with 41 fill-in-the-blank questions to help the viewer follow the documentary. An answer key is provided. The video can be found on YouTube.
The worksheets split the movie into two equal halves. I have had tremendous success with these worksheets. The students stay fully engaged while watching the movie. The fill-in-the-blank questions are in sync with how the documentary is presented. This approach maintains attentive listeners because the students are anxiously waiting for the next upcoming answer.
This activity is perfect for any Studio Art class, Art History class, and World History class.
Warning: There are three brief segments (1-2min) within the documentary where the commentator discusses some of the nude pieces done by Matisse. There are no questions within the worksheets that pertain to these segments.
