If you teach in any state that uses the SBAC common core assessment, you might find the writing rubric for the performance task cumbersome and impractical for quick grading of student writing due to the purpose/organization portion of the rubric being separate from the evidence/elaboration and conventions portion of the rubric. Literally, the SBAC rubric provided to teachers is 3 pages. 3 PAGES!
The rubric is designed in a way that allows students grade themselves first (student friendly language!!!) before submitting their final paper. There is also a reflection section which requires students to justify the scores they have given themselves. It's amazing how the reflection helps students recognize their strengths and weaknesses.
