Module 5: Grade 1 Math Slides
Share

Description

This powerpoint presentation includes over 250 slides to accompany teaching Math Module 5 for first grade. In this unit, students work with 2D and 3D shapes, and telling time.

I plan on using this in my own classroom and created the slides with the mindset of doing activities whole group and not handing out manipulatives to students, but rather projecting them on my smart board. Anywhere in the lesson where there are student manipulatives, I have found ways to project the lesson instead. I have a smartboard, so I can write on the slides whenever needed. I also made things movable so that you can manipulate the shapes.

There are some lesson activities where nothing needs to be projected (like sparkle) and in this instance there is just a slide saying sparkle where that activity should be played.

When called for, slides are interactive to allow for you to manipulate the materials on your board or screen.

to see state-specific standards (only available in the US).
Distinguish between defining attributes (e.g., triangles are closed and three-sided) versus non-defining attributes (e.g., color, orientation, overall size); build and draw shapes to possess defining attributes.
Compose two-dimensional shapes (rectangles, squares, trapezoids, triangles, half-circles, and quarter-circles) or three-dimensional shapes (cubes, right rectangular prisms, right circular cones, and right circular cylinders) to create a composite shape, and compose new shapes from the composite shape.
Partition circles and rectangles into two and four equal shares, describe the shares using the words halves, fourths, and quarters, and use the phrases half of, fourth of, and quarter of. Describe the whole as two of, or four of the shares. Understand for these examples that decomposing into more equal shares creates smaller shares.
