Here are two novel studies based on texts used in the ELA Modules. Included is:
The Hope Chest:
This is 150 pages of student pages. It is based on the grade 4 module 4 text study, but more in depth. Some questions are the same, others go into more detail. It is easily differentiated, since there are many activities and questions to choose from for each chapter.
-three pre-reading activities
-historical background information page for each chapter
-variety of questions for the text, separated by chapter. There are 19 chapters, and each has several questions. Some are multiple choice, others are short response or extended response
-5 after reading extended response questions
-figurative language and page numbers for each chapter for students to define
-journaling pages including visualizing, predicting, and vocabulary
-character report cards to use for analysis
-test prep posters (genre, main idea, context clues, text structure, text features, etc.)
This is a 34 page novel study. It includes 34 student pages that go along with the novel, Eagle Song. Eagle Song is part of the fourth grade Common Core modules on EngageNY, but this novel study is separate from the lessons. It has pre-reading activities. It also has vocabulary and comprehension questions for each chapter. In addition, there are after-reading activities, multiple extended responses, and suggestions for evidence statements to use in writing at the bottom of each page.
This novel study can be used with Eagle Song as a read aloud, class novel study, or guided reading text.
