This activity is as authentic as it gets, procured from the streets of Paris! Your students will love interpreting Gru’s family tree and you will love that it is NO PREP-print and go!
This activity set includes an excerpt from an activity book for kids related to the French-American movie “Moi, Moche et Mechant 3," and an accompanying graphic organizer for interpretive reading, appropriate for novice low French students.
The text is authentic, but readable for novices with plenty of scaffolding.
-likes and dislikes
-family and relationships
Important words and phrases are included in word banks. The text itself is in color, but prints very well in black and white.
Suggestions for Use:
With my class, I printed 15 color copies of the text double-sided and paired students up to read and interpret using notes. I then assigned about 4 students to each thought bubble to write their answers on a smartboard file to go over as a class. They loved being able to read a real French document, and knowing the characters helped with their interpretation. You could also set up stations for each character and have students move around the room and working in groups to interpret each character’s section. This is a versatile reading with rich vocabulary and can be used multiple ways.
This activity lasts about one block period or two 45 minute periods.
Follow-Up Activity: Have students draw their own family tree using the same format !
