Mole Calculation Lab Activity
Transform mundane mole problems into hands-on activities! Students visit 10 stations in this lab activity to practice mass, mole conversions and calculations.
Students should be familiar with molar mass, mole to gram and mole to molecule problems.
Activity duration is 90 minutes. Students work in partners and visit each station for a minimum of 5 minutes. Calculations can be completed at home or in class after initial activities are completed.
All materials needed are typically found in the Chemistry classroom!
Materials Needed for 10 stations:
10 scales 3 Weigh boats Graduated Cylinder (10mL)
Paper cups Teaspoon Epson salt
2 aspirin tablets Rock salt 2 alka seltzer tablets
2 sugar cubes Milk of magnesia Sand (about a cup)
Chalk Construction paper or small chalk board
This activity can be easily used when first introducing mole calculations. Activities can be easily differentiated for various academic levels.
