Over the years I've found the mole map, complimentary worksheets, and colored pencils are the BEST way for students to master stoichiometry mole conversion problems. The map will help with a variety of conversion problems including moles to mass, moles to liters, atoms to grams, molecules to moles, liters to ions, etc. Along with Color and Black & White mole maps, this package includes two 10 Problem mole conversion problems. Using the map, students identify given an unknown units, which step(s) and conversion tool(s) to use, and what order to do them. The answer keys include very detailed answer keys with all problems set up and solved.

HOW STUDENTS USE THE MAP:
Early in the stoichiometry unit, we will use colored pencils (matched to the map colors) to shade the GIVEN and UNKNOWN units directly on the worksheet questions. Students then locate the GIVEN UNIT (where to start on the LEFT) and the UNKNOWN UNIT (where they will finish on the right). This will tell them:

❃the # of steps
❃what conversion "tool" to use
❃what order to use each conversion "tool"

For my classes, I print and laminate 1 color map for each group, then have students shade their own black & white version using colored pencils. Students will soon master the conversions. Or you could save class time and print them full color maps.
