Students read Molly's Pilgrim and work together to answer comprehension questions by looking back to the text and discussing the story with their classmates. Students can work in a small group, or with a partner to discuss answers to text dependent questions. They take turns reading the questions aloud and answering them. Students can allow more than one person to answer a given question to explore in depth. Students are encouraged to add someone else’s answer, or ask questions to understand someone else’s answer better.
These directions help students establish their own discussion group guidelines.
Before you begin, set some group rules.
How will you make sure everyone has a turn?
What can you do to include everyone, and not let one or two people answer all the questions?
How could you help someone else if they get stuck?
When will it be time to move on to the next question?
Blank cards are included for students to write their own Text Talker Questions.
