The Native American Boy project is a real favorite for students K-12. It is a combination of a drawing project with a social studies component. The Fact Sheet gives some information about the Native American Pow Wow and includes a recommended book and a video about the Pow Wow ceremony. The project includes some instructions and warmup exercises in how to create the proportions of the human head and the placement of the features of the face.
There are teacher instructions on how to progressively teach the construction of the portrait of the boy and the students are given choices in how to decorate his costume, using 5 extra pages of resource photos depicting various young pow wow dancer’s costumes.
