Product Description
In this puzzle students will subtract two values to find the amount of change needed, then match that amount to the coins. I have my students do the subtraction of values and addition of coins in their heads, but you may certainly allow them to use their calculators if you’d like. All Canadian coins are used (penny, nickel, dime, quarter, loonie and toonie).

These types of puzzles are great for :
- diagnostic testing of student skills
- on-going practice and review
- formative testing
- rewarding those students who have completed their work
- extending for those students who have mastered prerequisite skills

This puzzle can apply to so many different ages and ability levels. Students start learning coins around age 6-7 but I’ve even used this puzzle in Grade 9 Workplace Math! The kids love it! Consider using this puzzle as an energizer to start a unit, in Math Centers, as additional practice in-class or lend out for at-home practice.

Having made and cut out so many of these puzzles in my careers, I recommend laminating the puzzles. The paper will hold up better and the students tend to show more respect. The puzzle is in colour, but if you are printing in grey-scale consider printing on colourful paper – it makes it more fun and helps to organize your puzzles by colour. I store my puzzles in large ziploc bags in my binder (put duct tape on the bottom and hole punch) and keep the solutions in a sheet protector.

This puzzle pack contains 1 puzzle in 3 sizes. Choose the size that best suits your needs. The normal size will fit on a child’s desk and is nice if the student is working independently or with a partner. The two larger sizes will fit on a table and works well for up to 3 students.

Enjoy!
