Each group receives a cash register, various amounts of money-bills and coins (mixed up), and a set of each task card. Before we begin the tasks, we review how to add and subtract money by lining up the decimal. I also model how to count back change. After practicing these skills as a class, I put the students in groups and let them begin working on the first task. When each group finishes a task, they raise their hands and I check their work. If they are correct, they move to the next task.
