This worksheet has five multiple step word problems that are related to money. Students will have to use skills of adding, subtracting, multiplying, dividing and even fractions in these problems. They vary from adding up a total at the grocery store and then determining the change (a great way to throw in some practice on decimals ) - see preview problem #1, to more complex problems from determining how much to buy for a recipe, then determining the cost for all supplies, average cost per student, etc.
When I use this worksheet with my students, I give them an envelope of real coupons and tell them to use them with the problems. Expired coupons that you won't use are great. In the problems I haven't used name brands, just "cake mix" or "vegetable oil" so you can put any brand coupons in the envelopes to bring in some real world hands on approaches to practicing this skill and adding more depth to the problems. I let the students check answers using the play money in the classroom or if they get stuck, but they still have to show work on paper also.
