These lessons were used with a bilingual class of Spanish speakers. Their content areas were taught in Spanish, and I was their sole English teacher. Most of them were reluctant to learn English, so I tried to engage them with interesting and fun lessons.
Two lesson plans are included here, one to teach students about American money, and the other to help students with common exchanges they will have to face when shopping in this country. The shopping lesson gets the kids out of their seats and turns the classroom into a mall. My students always had a lot of fun with these lessons, and learned a lot.
The lessons use the workshop model and have a checkbox for the teacher to circle which standards they are using in the lesson.
