Product Description

This game companion was designed to be a simple, no-prep activity to target articulation in an engaging way. Use them with the fun game, with monkey toys, with play dough, bingo chips, or bingo dotters. Full color and black & white!

This pack includes the following sounds: initial/final: p, b, m; final: n, t, d; initial/medial/final: k, g, f, v, s, z, ch, j, th, sh; pre-vocalic r; vocalic r (er, ar, or, air, ear, ire, mixed); rblends; lblends; sblends (separate mats for sp, st, sm, sn, sk, sl, sw, mixed).

Materials Needed: Monkey Jumpin’ Articulation mats and Jumping Monkeys game (you can find it on Amazon and sometimes Zulily). There are several different types of Jumping Monkeys games and these mats will work with all of them!. You could also use any small generic monkey toys (such as the barrel of monkeys) with these mats.

Assembly: Low Prep! Print the mats in color, one sided. Laminate or place in sheet protectors (optional, not required). Use the black & white version for an ink friendly option with the game or with bingo dotters/crayons.

To use: Set up the game as directed. Place the monkey pieces over the circles on the mat (on the monkeys’ stomachs). As the students chooses a monkey to jump (launch onto the tree) they will practice the target word (the number of trials to be determined by the therapist). In the version I have, the students launch the monkeys at the tree with mini catapults. If this is too difficult or frustrating, let the students toss the monkeys at the tree. The objects of the game is to see who can get all of their monkeys on the tree first. You can play the game as directed or make up your own rules (I usually do!). There may not be enough monkeys to cover the whole mat and that is okay! Simply cover up the monkeys they haven’t practiced on the next round.

Variations:

  • Play dough mats:. The student will squish play dough over each monkey after they practice the target word.
  • Bingo chips: The students will place a bingo chip over each circle on the monkey as they practice the target word.
  • Bingo dotters: Use the black and white version! The student will dot the circle on the monkey’s tummy after they practice the word.
