Here are 4 simple-to-play board games for practicing /k/ in initial, medial, final or mixed positions. The games are ready to print and play - the black and white format helps save on printing costs and makes it ideal as a home practice activity.
The game is best played with 2 to 4 players. You will need a dice and each player will need a game-piece.
You might like to enlarge the print-out and/or give your students the task of coloring the game board.
The rules are simple:
• Each player puts his game-piece on the 'Start' button (bottom left of game board).
• Players take turns to roll the dice and move the number of spaces indicated, following the trail of adjoining circles. If you land at a giraffe's feet, take a short cut up the giraffe's neck to the circle above; if you land on a monkey's tail, you must move 'down' the monkey's tail to the circle below.
• Say the word you land on the same number of times as shown on the dice (or put the word in a short sentence if you have mastered single /k/ words). Don't forget to use great speech!!!
• The first player to reach the 'Finish' circle (top right of game board) is the winner.
Monkeys and Giraffes games are also available for other sounds. Please click on the links below if you'd like to check them out:
