Your task is to decide who was the most important business leader of the 1800’s? You will do this by creating a bracket comparing the leaders. The four business leaders you will choose from are John D. Rockefeller, Andrew Carnegie, Leland Stanford, J.P. Morgan. You will need to start with basic information about each. What industry are they involved in? How did they run their business (vertical or horizontal integration or some other method)? How were workers in their industry treated? How did they spend their money? Did they donate or create any institutions? Is he a robber baron (dishonest way of business) or captain of industry (honest way of business)?
After researching basic info about each you will have them “compete” to see who was the best business leader of the four. After each round you will give a summary of why one advances past the other. Make sure to give evidence and reasoning for each and write in complete sentences.
If any student finished early they researched who would could be a replacement for one of the four or who could be added as a play in "game". I had the students take a side of the bracket and debate who the champion was. Then we decided as a class who should be the champion.
