This activity is aligned with the picture book: "Welcome to Monster Town", by Ryan Heshka. Read story aloud to students, prompting students to notice the amazing illustrations. Students then complete questions afterward, discussing why certain monsters were selected for certain jobs (ie. Why is a Cyclops a good optometrist?) . After discussion questions, students are tasked with designing, drawing and labeling a monster of their own. Students must decide what career this monster would be best suited for and why.
This activity is also well aligned with the development of community awareness; students can come to appreciate the careers that make up communities.
