Liven up your first days of school with this mini-unit, Monster Mania. Filled with community building activities, your students will never know that they are learning about themselves and their classmates while having fun doing it! The activities are simple and don't take a lot of time, so you will still have time to do those "mandatory" first week activities.
Included in this resource are:
~A Student Welcome Gift Idea from the Teacher: I've included monster printables with the saying, "Here's to a "fang"tastic year!. You can purchase plastic fangs for real cheap on Amazon and attach them to the cards. Your students will love their gift from you!
~Make a Monster Glyph: Students are given a monster "starter" printable. I've included a script for you to read that directs students to draw various items on their monster. This is a great activity for students to learn about their peers and practice their listening skills as well.
~Draw My Monster: This is a partner activity for students to get closer to their classmates. Partner A will draw a simple monster on their included printable; then they'll describe their monster to Partner B. Partner B must listen for details and draw what's being described. The outcomes of the two drawings are very amusing! Partners then switch roles and do the activity again.
~The Best Class Pet Ever! Craftivity: Students will imagine that this year their class pet is a friendly monster. They'll write to the prompt on the included printable. Templates to make a monster to "hold" their writings are included. So cute! Also a great way to get a first informal assessment on your students' writing skills!
