In this activity, the students will work with concepts in Economics. Economic concepts include: marketing, product design, pricing, and supply and demand. The activity also has a real-world application. The students will get to market and sell their products to the student body. This real-world application will provide motivation and also assure that students take their time in developing a product that may sell. The money collected could be donated to the school as a type of fundraiser.
This activity has directions for making the products, order forms (for students to place their order), and handouts for students and teachers: a list of possible vocabulary terms and an advertising poster checklist (both for students and teachers to use for grading the marketing poster)
Students will be creating Monster Pets ! (My idea stemmed from pet rocks that were popular in the 70’s) The students will follow written directions bookmarked by the teacher and create a monster pets from small river/beach rocks. There will be four standard styles of pets. This will make it easier for the students to make and also make it easier for the “customers” (student body) to order. The students can also make “pet carriers” for each one out of recycled tissue paper rolls.
This product also meets the Common Core Standard R13.4 for third grade. It includes academic and domain specific words in the subject area of Social Studies.
