Learn and practice memory strategies in a fun game format! My students LOVE this game and I hope yours will too!
Included in the packet:
- 8 different memory strategies (Chunking, Associations, Memory Peg, Silly Sentences, Acronyms, Visualization, Rehearsal, Key Words)
- 8 posters with a definition and/or example of each memory strategy,
- 20 prompts for each memory strategy
Directions: Print and laminate multiple copies of the task cards on pages 3-5 (I suggest at least 3 copies). Print a copy of the collection mats (pages 14-22). Distribute a mat to each student. Separate the ‘find me’ and ‘memory strategy’ task cards into two piles. Shuffle and pass out two ‘memory strategy’ task cards to each student. These go on the outside of their mats, not on the mats. Shuffle and turn over a ‘Find me’ card. The student to slap/mash the matching monster first answers the language prompt. If they respond correctly, they get to collect the monster task card onto their mat. When a student collects a card on their mat, pass out an additional task card from the stack. The first student to collect all the different monster task cards on their mat is the winner!!
Level One prompts: Have students define the memory strategy on the task card
Level Two prompts: Use the provided material to practice applying the memory strategies
Level Three prompts: Use memory strategies with curriculum based materials
