This can be used as a whole class activity or a center activity.
You will need to purchase and make bags of Count Chocula, Boo-Berry, and Frankenberry cereal to use for the sorting. I purchased these in the Halloween section of Target for $1.99 per box which made over 40 ½ cup bags.
Teacher or students read the cards.
Kids sort cereal on the sorting mat to make groups of cereal based on the groupings described on the cards.
Students write a matching multiplication sentence on a dry-erase board to familiarize themselves with basic facts.
Assess by using the three word problems. Students should be able to move from modeling with cereal to drawing a picture.
Happy Halloween and Happy Multiplying!
