I love doing this project around Halloween, but really it is a fun project for any time of the year. The gist is that students work in small groups to design monsters - let them be as creative as they'd like! The only rule is that they use a multiplicative comparison to create their final monsters. For example, if one monster is 4 inches tall and the other is 5 times as big, the other one would be 20 inches tall. When all of the monsters are created, I like to hang them all up and do a gallery walk where students create new multiplicative comparisons for different monsters!
The handouts I created lead students through this process. I also included a few challenges for those that move quickly through the project!
