If you have ever had difficulty with your little sweeties walking correctly or quietly in line or in the hall, then this kit is for you!
You can use this system in a few different ways:
1. Explain to your students that you are secretly picking a "mystery walker" and will be watching to see if that person walks correctly in line. If they are successful they are praised and their mystery walker number is placed into a jar. At the end of the day or week, draw 2 or 3 (or how many you want) numbers from the jar and reward with a prize of your choice!
2. Pull a number from the jar prior to walking in the hall and don't say who it is. If that person does a good job when you get to your destination or return to the classroom, they put a cube into your "Mystery Walker" jar. When the jar gets full reward the whole class with a Read and Feed Day, an extra recess, or whatever you feel appropriate. My students have earned a Read and Feed and also a short movie (educational of course!)
3. Choose a number prior to leaving the classroom but don't tell students what number was chosen! Secretly watch that student as you walk down the hall. When you get to your destination and IF the student did a good job, tell them and give them a reward (I use a clip up on our clip chart!) If you don't feel this student did a good job I do NOT identify the student but tell the class our Mystery Walker needs to think about the rules and we will try again soon! You can review the rule that was broken when returning to the classroom (without mentioning the student's name!)
I have included the following:
"Mystery Walker" poem poster ( Two to choose from)
"Mystery Walker" number cards #1-32
"I Was a Mystery Walker" certificates in both color and black and white
Labels for your "Mystery Walker" container or jar
Hope this helps you implement this fun management program in your classroom! My students love it and remind me to "Pick a Mystery Walker!!"
(I did not write this poem. I do not know who originally did.)
