This template can be printed on card stock paper, cut out, and laminated to create 10 groups of 4 piece puzzles.
I typically use these puzzle pieces to switch up cooperative learning groups. First, I decide how many groups I need and pull that many puzzles. I will pass out the pieces randomly among the students OR will strategically pass out the pieces if necessary for differentiation. The students then have two minutes (or however long you choose) to find their partners, sit down, complete their puzzle, and wait silently for me to retrieve their puzzle and then they may begin working.
The student get SUPER excited when I pass the puzzle pieces out because they typically don't get the same puzzle twice and are always curious of what monster their puzzle will make! Plus, it gets their energy out with a little kinesthetic movement to break up any chunk of instruction.
