Make phonics fun and relatable to your students with this theme based unit called "Monster Words" (oo, ew, ue, ui). These words were inspired by the book by Marc Brown. As you read this book, students will be saying eww!! as they listen to all the gross and imaginative things that are found in a monster's lunchbox that was found on the playground one day. The kids LOVE this phonics theme and it can inspire you to get very creative. If you can't find the book, you can always focus on the sound we hear in B!
Do you often ask yourself why your students can't remember how to spell words that you've already taught? Teaching them in way using a theme based unit will create a lasting memory and an association to these often complex sounds. This 40 page phonics packet includes ideas to make this theme work in your classroom. It's built as a week long unit and includes the following resources in both color and black and white.
I created these phonics packets when I noticed my students having a difficult time remembering all the different vowel combinations. By giving each sound a "tag" or "label," my kids could make connections to words and I watched as they became excited each week to find out what the new sound would be. Give your students the opportunity to practice phonics and fluency with excitement and eagerness. They will truly enjoy it!!
