Attached is a thematic analysis / outline that can be used before or as a pre-writing activity for writing a thematic essay for the novel, Monster, by Walter Dean Myers.

This activity helps students scaffold their ideas about each of the four themes developed in the novel: 1) Peer Pressure 2) Growing Up 3) Introspection and Taking Personal Responsibility and 4) Race and the Justice System.
