A very long product name!
I have been looking at how Montessori meets the Kindergarten Common Core guidelines. This is the first of what will be a series of short writings on how we do this. It will include suggestions for variations and extensions with the Montessori mathematics materials.
In this first set, we look at the following guidelines :
K.CC.1 Count to 100 by ones and by tens.
K.CC.2 Count forward beginning from a given number within the known sequence (instead of having to begin at 1).
K.CC.4 Understand the relationship between numbers and quantities; connect counting to cardinality.
K.CC.4a When counting objects, say the number names in the standard order, pairing each object with one and only one number name and each number name with one and only one object.
K.CC.4c Understand that each successive number name refers to a quantity that is one larger.
I have focused on the one to ten series in particular, including instructions for several lessons you can present to support this work.
Finally, I have made a game that can be played using several sets of the colored bead stair. Children will place the printed numerals in order following random numbers zero to nine.
