Product Description
Welcome to Family Writing Projects (also known as FWP). I hope you, your students, and your families LOVE doing these projects as much as me and mine have. This set was designed to help families spend more quality yet educational time together as an entire family unit.

These projects are super fun to complete and require little to no cost items from families. **These projects also make for AWESOME in class projects as well so don’t be afraid to bust one out if you choose not to send one home that month. Your little ones will not only learn how to become better writers from each month’s project, but also about the wonderful world around them, too!

Each FWP is centered around a different theme for each particular month:

August/ September: Back To School (Mickey Ears Getting to Know You)
October: Choice of Book Character Pumpkin -OR- Character Wanted Poster (legal size paper)
(Character Analysis & Story Structure)
November: Turkey Disguise (Imaginative Writing)
December: Our Family Traditions (Writing to Inform)
January: Influential American (Free Choice Research Report)
February: If My Family Ruled White House (Text to World Connection)
March: iLucky iPhone (Showing Appreciation)
April: Student Bio Poem (National Poetry Month—featuring a POET-TEA Party!)
May/June: End of the Year (School Year Reflection Pamphlet)

These projects can be completed over aprox. a two week period, but I always try to give my families three weeks to complete them. **I assign them at the beginning of the month and they are to be turned in the third week, allowing for a week+ of holiday display in your classroom.

I have included easy to grade Post It Note rubrics for you (and a separate rubric the families) meaning these projects can be used to help with grading purposes for Standards Based Report Cards or participation points for your grade books.

This set was designed for little prep work on your part. We all know we have MORE than enough to keep us busy! Simply print one copy of the student directions page, sample (if you wish), rubric (if not already on the student directions page), and the corresponding student writing sheets and send it through the magical copy machine, stapling a class set for quick and easy distribution.

Think about how many of your students would choose writing at their favorite subject? Yeah…exactly. This project set will help open their eyes to how much FUN writing can really be! I see so much growth in my students from completing these FWP and their attitudes about writing totally change! I love seeing how excited they get over what the next month’s project will be.

I love, love, love doing these projects every year and I love, love, love hearing families talk about how much fun they had while completing them! I hope you and your families do, too!

-Enjoy! <3 Jamie
