This set of reading logs does not include suggested daily reading goals.

The reading log is a tool for learners to track their reading, including title, author, genre, minutes and pages read.

While there has been much discussion on the value of reading logs, I have found the use of reading logs to be helpful if the logs are used as a tool for the reader as well as the teacher.

As students continue to use the reading logs, with a teacher's purposeful guidance, they can begin to see many different patterns. Perhaps one child notices he reads more at home than at school. Maybe another student notices he's been reading mostly fantasy books, and decides to try a different genre. Another student, with her teacher's guidance, may notice it is taking her 30 minutes to read 10 pages. By being thoughtfully observant, the reader can determine that perhaps the text is too difficult, and would decide it better to try a different book.

There is a separate reading log for each month. When printing, print double sided. Each side has plenty of lines for one week. You will generally want 2 double sided copies for each month.

In addition, as the school year progresses, the suggested amount of time to read at home increases.

Finally, I suggest the students file their old reading logs. The children really enjoy having tangible evidence of what and how much they have read during the school year.
