I have created ESTIMATION JAR MATH CLUES for each month of the school year, with the estimation jar items themed toward popular holidays and events for each month. Students will be excited and engaged all year as they solve weekly math clues to figure out how many items are in your Estimation Jar!
Teachers should reveal one clue each week, and students can submit a new estimation guess each time a new clue is revealed. As the month continues, the clues will combine to reveal the actual number of items in the estimation jar (and students' visual estimation skills will improve as well!) The clues will become more difficult as the school year continues, reflecting the students' increasing math skills.
An answer key is provided for all the months so you can plan ahead in gathering these simple Estimation Jar items. Teachers may use the same jar all year for their Estimation Jar, or can vary the jar's shape and/or size each month for an extra challenge. (*Hint: I save all my non-perishable Estimation Jar items to reuse each year... Those items are already counted out and ready to pop in the jar again!*)
Math Concepts in the clues include:
* Even & Odd numbers, and Even & Odd digits within numbers
* Greater than & Less than comparisons
* Counting by given amounts
* Two-digit and Three-digit numbers
* Division (by half)
* Factors of numbers
