This reading log can be used to not only help track our students' independent reading progress, but it also helps hold both students and parents accountable.
At the beginning of each week, students make a reading goal in terms of 'minutes read' . Then, students track their independent reading both at school and at home. At the end of each week, students reflect on their reading performance (minutes read) and share this with their parents. Students will return each Monday with their reading logs signed and pumped to beat their goal the following week.
You'll see a space on the bottom for a "Monthly Reading Goal", which I use in my classroom to celebrate our reading successes. We start with a minimal goal, and all students who make this goal participate in a celebration like extra recess or lunch in the classroom. The monthly goal increases throughout the year, pushing the students to their reading limits (and encourage how FUN reading can be)!
