Self-care is the core of the plane safety message: fit your own oxygen mask before helping others. But it doesn’t just apply when you are flying. In helping professions, self-care is absolutely crucial, and yet so many educators put their own health and wellbeing at the bottom of their to-do list.
This monthly self-care planner can help change that. Every month I like to take a few moments to set some intentions, review my calendar and plan my month ahead. I created this two-page planner for myself and have found it so useful I want to share it with you, too.
Use it to get a your key self-care priorities on paper, set your affirmations and intentions, as well as flag any key work items/deadlines that you need to keep in mind too.
When I do this, it helps me stay organised and on top of the important things, but it also puts self-care on the TOP of my to-do list every month. While I do usually have a running "brain dump" style to-do list that is mostly 'work' and 'home' stuff, it's not the thing I keep on my desk in full view. This is what I use to keep me on track each month and I hope you will find it just as useful.
There is a 'themes' section too which is where I write down a personal virtue, character strength or word to guide my life and work. For this part, I usually pick a couple of cards from an affirmation/oracle card deck.
Sometimes we wait until someone else tells us it’s ok to care for ourselves…Consider this your permission slip: go and look after YOU!
You are a person first and a teacher second, and you are worthy of your own care x
