This guide has a recommended list of skills for beginner ballet students, starting around 8 years old.
After the skills list for the year, the list is then further broken down to give suggestions on what to teach each month in a progressive manner. This will ensure that your teaching goals are met by the end of the dance year.
The monthly lists only have skills to be introduced or covered. Combinations, especially in the Grand Allegro section of class, are not included. Create your own by piecing together the skills your dancers have already learned.
Following this plan, most skills have been taught by February. This allows for choreography to be included in Spring classes, in preparation for end-of-year recitals.
As will all of our documents, this guide is not comprehensive and is meant to provide developing teachers with a STARTING POINT! Every student, every class, and every studio will require something different than what is outlined below…but start here and continue to grow!
NOTE: Out of respect for a budding small business, please do not purchase this document and then make copies for other teachers. Please send your colleagues the link to this webpage and ask that they purchase their own copy. Thank you!
