This product is designed to create an opportunity for your students to free write throughout the month. It is meant to be copied front to back so when you flip up each page, you have the writer’s checklist and topic at the top and then writing space on the bottom. Use the checklist to help students monitor their own work and use of good writing mechanics.
There is a space for you to have students glue in a journal prompt if you wish OR you can have them write “Free Choice!” and let them express themselves creatively about any topic they choose. This is also a great opportunity to provide students feedback individually or give them a chance to apply a mini lesson strategy or skill taught earlier in the week.
This journal can also be used as an early finishers activity or a writing station if you use the Daily 5/Café format for language arts. Depending on the level of your students, you may want to begin with blank pages of pictures and labels (especially for pre-K and kindergarten students). Then, feel free to move onto writing one sentence and eventually 3 sentences.
This product includes:
-20 journal prompts for students to glue into their journal
(including a WRITER'S CHOICE page- I like to use this on Fridays!)
-Cover page for the front of the student journal
-2 pages with space to brainstorm ideas for writer's choice days
-10 pages with blank pages (for pictures and labels)
-10 pages with one line (for writing 1 sentence)
-10 pages with three lines (for writing 2-3 sentences)
You can use a combination of these pages to customize your monthly journal as you see fit.
