MONTHLY WRITING PROMPTS
are perfect for morning writing activities and/or centers! Each month has 24 prompts related to that particular month. There are 4 prompts for each type of writing:
THERE ARE 288 PROMPTS TOTAL!
What else is included?
★ Sign for center
★ Cover pages for the front of the notebook and for each month
★ Monthly pockets and tabs for notebooks or centers
★ Graphic Organizers for pargragph or essay writing
HOW TO USE:
Choose if you would like to put the pockets in the notebooks or at a writing center. If you have them in a writing center, you can still have students use a notebook. Use the cover pages (included) to use for each month.
Print off the task cards. There are 24 task cards per month so there are more than you need for each school day of the month. Decide if you want students to choose from all or choose from the genre. There are 4 prompts per genre. Genres include: Narrative, Opinion, Informative, Descriptive, Persuasive, How-To.
Once you or the student chooses a prompt, have the student write the prompt at the top of the page. Optional: Resize the task cards and have students paste them at the top of the page. Go to print, choose multiple, then custom, then 1X2.
Optional Graphic Organizer: I’ve included a paragraph graphic organizer and an essay graphic organizer if you want to use them as well. I also have a packet of free graphic organizers in my store. To save on space in the notebook if you plan on using them 180 days and there are 200 pages in the notebook, tape or glue the graphic organizer on the page over top the writing when finished. If you only plan on using them 2-3 times a week, I would suggest to paste the graphic organizer on one side and do the writing on the other side of the opened notebook.
Recommended- 200 pages (100 sheets)- Use front and back.
Cover page or Pocket Page: Print off the monthly pocket page and tab OR the monthly cover page on colored paper (a similar color as the task card). I don’t suggest cardstock because it will be too heavy. If you don’t have the same color or want to save on ink, you can print off the task cards in black and white!
Prompt Cards: Print off the prompt cards for the month. To save on ink, you can print them black and white and/or on a color piece of paper.
How To Put the Notebook Together: I highly suggest to do them per month, not assign so many pages per month and put them together all at one time. Why? Each month has different school days. Although there are 24 prompts per month, there are only 20 weekdays in a month and some months are less due to holidays, teacher workdays, etc.
Print off the Monthly pocket pages and task cards on color cardstock. Student can use loose leaf paper or a notebook to write their stories.
Per Month- Paste the pocket chart on a card stock and place the task cards inside. Staple it to your bulletin board.
For the Year- Paste each pocket chart on a trifold so all months are on them. Or if you have a big enough area, paste them on the bulletin board.
