We focus specifically on writing for about 45 minutes a day, even though we write a lot throughout the day. We keep a Writer’s Journal as well as a Writing Notebook. We write in the journal (a composition notebook) every day for about 3-5 minutes as a way to think about the ideas, thoughts, or questions we have about specific prompts (there is a list of prompts included with this pack). The Writing Notebook (a spiral notebook) is used as a place to keep our informational writing pages (like the “What is a Verb?” or the “Section Headings” pages) as well as all of our pre-writing and rough draft pages. To make them fit on a spiral notebook page, I reduce these pages to 93% on the copy machine when I copy them.
We focus on one topic per month and complete a variety of projects throughout the month. The different projects for the month get students researching and creating writing they will want to keep!
This pack contains writing sheets for seven different projects:
1. Adopt an Animal Essay
2. Big Book of Animals
3. Animal Report
4. Endangered Animals Poster
5. “Pink is for Blobfish” Report
6. “How to Eat a Pig” Steps
7. Build Your Wild Self
The pack contains information pages, background information, and writing pages. More monthly units are on the way!
*The "Pink is for Blobfish" and "How to Eat a Pig" packs can be purchased separately as well!
