Use this easy craft to help children understand how our calendar measures the months of the year, as the Earth travels around the Sun. Playing with the results helps your students learn the names and order of the months.
With the completed craft, children can move a miniature planet Earth around the sun, reading how the months of the year pass, as it goes. The names of the seasons are also included.
The interactive activity can be printed as follows:
- in black and white as a coloring page,
- in full color, or
- with blank areas for children to label their own months.
Also included is a completely blank version for those who really want to customize. The last page of the download is a grid full of little charts you can give your students, for copying down the month names or checking their work. Each printable sheet includes full instructions so it can even be given out as an extra take home activity.
The work is very simple. Students color the diagrams if desired, glue the page to cardboard or card stock, cut out the pieces, and then attach them together with a brad and a little more glue.
