I created this activity to use after reading Edgar Allan Poe's "The Tell-Tale Heart" however I have made the instructions general so that you can apply it to any short story.
This common-core aligned activity explains to students that they will "bust out mad music skillz" in order to create a soundtrack for the story.
The activity usually takes a few days because of the multiple components:
1. The students create an album cover to depict the theme of the story
2. The students choose two songs (one represents the mood of the story, one respresents the narrator's tone)
3. The students use textual evidence to support their song choices.
Included in this purchase is a student handout explaining the assignment (it is a word document so you can take out my sad attempt at teenage lingo!) and a rubric that is common-core aligned.
